About the role

The Humanities Department at SJSU is seeking an Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer to teach lower-division undergraduate General Education course, “Chronicles of Education,” and/or in the series of “Field study in Humanities” courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower-division undergraduate General Education course, “Chronicles of Education,” and/or in the series of “Field study in Humanities” courses designed to introduce prospective K-8 teachers to California’s public multiple subject classrooms.
  • “Chronicles of Education” uses narratives of education to teach about the forces that shape individuals and societies. The course features histories and narratives of education that represent global, multi-linguistic, gendered and multi-cultural perspectives about educational practice and philosophy.
  • Fieldwork Courses: Each course in this fieldwork series requires that student volunteer in public-school classrooms with credentialed teachers. The courses include topics such as funds of knowledge, culturally responsive pedagogy, the physical and procedural classroom, home-school partnerships, and so on.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity–including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation–through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Requirements

  • MA OR ABD OR Ph.D. OR Ed.D. in social and cultural foundations of education or related education fields.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in and record of scholarly activity desirable.
  • Strong college level teaching skills and experience required, and experience related to K-8 classrooms preferred.
