About the role

This position provides direct HIV/STI counseling and testing services to inmates in St. Lucie County jails and detention facilities. The role also involves coordinating services and ensuring quality care for inmates.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct HIV/STI counseling and testing services in accordance with Florida Department of Health guidelines.
  • Processes specimen collections for submission to the State Laboratory.
  • Acts as liaison between the Florida Department of Health and detention facility officials.
  • Facilitates HIV/STI/HCV prevention education classes for inmates.
  • Completes and submits required reports and records.
  • Assists with linkage/re-engagement activities for newly diagnosed clients.
  • Collaborates with other agencies to provide outreach counseling and testing education.
  • Participates in community events and screenings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • One to two years of case management experience or patient care coordination experience.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter willing to take initiative, flexible, and able to work in teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate work assignments.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to become certified in Phlebotomy and complete training on Disease Intervention Specialist and Linkage to Care ARTAS training.
  • Willingness to travel out of county, work before and after hours, and during weekends.
  • Willingness to serve in special needs shelters during emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Must be willing to become Certified in Phlebotomy and complete training on Disease Intervention Specialist and Linkage to Care ARTAS training.
  • Preferred: Certified phlebotomist and/or trained phlebotomist, experience working with HIV/STD programs, experience with Quality Assurance, file reviews, reports, and developing processes, experience with detention facilities, drug rehab facilities, mental health facilities, and/or related work, experience with Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs, case management experience, experience with risk reduction education, bilingual (Spanish and/or Creole) preferred.
