Human Services Benefits Program Specialist

Overview

Alexandria is a vibrant city located in northern Virginia, bordered by the Potomac River, Arlington and Fairfax counties. It has a population of approximately 150,000 and covers 15.75 square miles. The Human Services Benefits Program Specialist position involves determining and re-determining eligibility for various federal, state, and local financial assistance programs.

Responsibilities

• Determine and re-determine eligibility of individuals and families for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, AG, GR, Energy Assistance, and other financial assistance programs.
• Interpret and explain policies pertaining to financial assistance programs.
• Evaluate social and economic factors related to eligibility.
• Use independent judgement to make eligibility determinations without supervisory guidance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in human services or related field.
• Ability to interpret and explain complex policies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Benefits

The City of Alexandria offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and professional development opportunities. However, temporary and some part-time positions are not eligible for these benefits.

Pay

The salary range for this position is TBD, commensurate with experience.
