Human Services Benefits Program Specialist
Overview
Alexandria is a vibrant city located in northern Virginia, bordered by the Potomac River, Arlington and Fairfax counties. It has a population of approximately 150,000 and covers 15.75 square miles. The Human Services Benefits Program Specialist position involves determining and re-determining eligibility for various federal, state, and local financial assistance programs.
Responsibilities
- Determine and re-determine eligibility of individuals and families for SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, AG, GR, Energy Assistance, and other financial assistance programs.
- Interpret and explain policies pertaining to financial assistance programs.
- Evaluate social and economic factors related to eligibility.
- Use independent judgement to make eligibility determinations without supervisory guidance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in human services or related field.
- Ability to interpret and explain complex policies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Benefits

Pay
The salary range for this position is TBD, commensurate with experience.
