Human Resources Project Manager
About the Role
As a Human Resources (HR) Project Manager, you will lead key strategic HR projects and programs that support the optimization and integration of new initiatives and processes for employees. This role drives HR initiatives by applying best practices informed by market research and internal customer needs. It requires a mix of strategic thinking, influence and negotiation, project management, and efficient prioritization. The position is highly hands-on and demands strong, detail-oriented execution skills. You will provide clear project direction, metric definition, and performance management, serving as a single point of accountability for assigned projects while maintaining focus on scope, resources, schedules, risk management, issue tracking, and overall project status. A digital mindset is preferred, with a passion for applying technology to meet business needs.
Responsibilities
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with management, project sponsors, product owners, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Lead project execution and delivery, helping project teams maintain an overall project vision with supporting project plans.
- Refine project execution approach using project management standards and best practices.
- Identify and manage project dependencies, critical path items, and project risks.
- Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential roadblocks, and devise contingency plans.
- Develop and deliver progress reports to management and other stakeholders, including issue/action item logs, project status, and risks.
- Conduct post-project reviews and make recommendations for continuous excellence in project execution and delivery.
- Build, develop, and grow business relationships vital to the success of the project.
- Effectively communicate expectations to project team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion, continuously manage objectives, and hold project team members accountable for delivery.
- Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Develop and advocate best practices and tools for project execution and management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field (required).
- PMP certification or a similar certification (preferred).
- 4+ years of relevant project management experience running projects in a complex, multi-site environment with cross-functional teams.
- 3+ years of experience working with HR and business leaders to set direction and drive project execution.
- 3+ years of experience managing HR-related projects.
Skills
- Ability to develop risk mitigation scenarios, cost analysis, and indirectly influence and coach internal team members and peers.
- Strong written and verbal communication, formal presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including executives, managers, and technical staff.
- Proficiency with MS Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with construction or a similar industry.
- Practical knowledge of both agile and non-agile project methodologies.
- Experience managing projects and utilization of project management software such as MS Project or Smartsheet.
- Ability to work effectively within a team that manages a variety of large-scale and multi-disciplinary strategic enterprise projects with a cross-functional focus.
