About the role
The position is at a health and wellness company. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on HR Manager to work closely with the VP of HR in developing and expanding a high-performing People function. This opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys being actively involved in day-to-day operations and excels in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Reporting directly to the VP of HR, the HR Manager will oversee the daily execution of people operations throughout the employee lifecycle, including payroll, benefits administration, leave management, onboarding and offboarding, HR systems, compliance, and various HR programs.
Responsibilities
- HR Operations: Work closely with the VP of HR to implement the company's people strategy while overseeing day-to-day HR operations. Manage and continuously enhance HR processes across every stage of the employee lifecycle. Create, maintain, and improve HR policies, procedures, and operational workflows. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Payroll and Benefits: Manage payroll administration to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing. Collaborate with payroll vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues and improve payroll operations. Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, annual open enrollment, and employee communications.
- HRIS & Employee Data Management: Oversee administration of the HRIS platform (Rippling preferred), ensuring employee records remain accurate and data integrity is maintained. Maintain HR reports, dashboards, and workforce analytics. Support internal audits and compliance reporting activities.
- Onboarding and Offboarding: Manage all onboarding activities to provide new employees with a smooth, engaging, and well-organized onboarding experience. Coordinate offer documentation, new hire paperwork, system access, orientation sessions, and cross-functional onboarding activities. Oversee employee offboarding, including exit interviews, documentation, system deactivation, final payroll coordination, and benefits communication.
- Leave Management and Compliance: Administer all leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, state leave programs, disability, parental leave, and workers' compensation where applicable. Coordinate leave processes with employees, managers, payroll, and benefits providers to ensure a seamless experience. Maintain accurate and compliant documentation while providing timely communication throughout each leave process. Monitor changes in employment legislation and recommend updates to policies and procedures as needed.
- HR Programs and Continuous Improvement: Support performance management, employee engagement, recognition, and talent development initiatives. Assist with recruitment coordination and hiring activities when required. Partner with the VP of HR on strategic initiatives, special projects, and organization-wide HR programs.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of progressive Human Resources experience with direct responsibility for core HR operations.
- Experience managing payroll, benefits administration, leave management, HRIS platforms, and HR compliance.
- Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws and Human Resources best practices.
- Experience administering HRIS platforms, with Rippling preferred.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to establish trusted working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.
Preferred
- Experience working in consumer products, e-commerce, manufacturing, or high-growth startup environments.
- Experience implementing HR systems or driving improvements to HR operational processes.
- Experience managing employee benefits vendors and external HR service providers.
- Knowledge of compensation administration and performance management programs.
Pay
$125k to $135k annually.
