JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Human Resources Manager oversees, monitors, and develops comprehensive HR strategies, policies, and practices that support the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's goals and needs while creating a diverse, respectful, welcoming, and inclusive work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee, monitor, and develop comprehensive HR strategies, policies, and practices that support the organization's goals and needs while creating a diverse, respectful, welcoming, and inclusive work environment for all employees
- Lead strategic thinking and planning related to organizational development and structure in partnership with senior management
- Maintain an open line of communication with the organization's culture to ensure it supports the MSO's values and goals
- Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on legal rights, obligations, and HR best practices
- Oversee and implement administrative staff recruiting and selection process
- Design and implement strategies and protocols to build capacity for all departments to interview, hire, and retain a diverse workforce
- Create strategies that encourage team building and increase communication across administrative departments and between administration and artistic areas
- Develop and implement strategies for demonstrating employee value and appreciation
- Lead organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements (EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, OSHA, etc.)
- Keep job knowledge up to date by participating in industry-related organizations and conferences and maintaining and expanding professional networks
- Oversee administrative staff evaluation process
- Provide guidance and training to supervisors to enhance effectiveness of the process
- Maintain accurate processing and recording of MSO's payroll
- Recommend and obtain cost-effective employee benefits, monitor national benefits environment for options and cost savings
- Oversee benefit orientations and training as needed
- Assist Director of Orchestra Personnel with HR strategies, policies, and practices that support the organization’s union workforce
- Provide support during negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s Degree in human resources and a minimum of 3 years HR experience
- Experience with Paycom strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Sage accounting software and experience with unions a plus
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR preferred
