The People Operations Lead is part of the Leadership Team and serves as the primary strategic partner to the Senior Director, People & Culture — turning direction into actionable plans and representing the Senior Director's priorities across the organization when needed. This role owns the systems, compliance, and operational infrastructure that support the People & Culture function and is responsible for ensuring core people operations are efficient, consistent, compliant, and built around a positive employee experience. The role provides leadership and mentorship to the Global Benefits & Leave Specialist and Payroll & People Systems Specialist, along with day-to-day functional guidance and coaching to the People & Culture Business Partner, who leads front-line employee lifecycle execution. Responsibilities Strategic Partnership & Talent Management Act as a strategic thought partner to the Senior Director, turning vision and priorities into actionable plans and representing those priorities in cross-functional and leadership discussions when needed.Connect HR strategy with organizational goals; lead organizational change, workforce planning, and talent management initiatives. Policy & Compliance Monitor regional, federal, and international HR laws to maintain organizational compliance, including working with the Employer-of-Record (EOR) for international employees.Partner with the Senior Director to develop HR policies and procedures aligned with best practices and legal requirements. Payroll, Benefits & People Systems Lead and coach the Payroll & People Systems Specialist; maintain overall accountability for the effectiveness, compliance, and operational accuracy of U.S. payroll.Lead and coach the Global Benefits & Leave Specialist; maintain overall accountability for benefits and leave program design, compliance, and administration across regions.Act as the primary escalation contact for brokers, carriers, and EOR partners; oversee renewals, plan design, and open enrollment strategy.Own BambooHR and the broader People & Culture technology environment — including integrations, workflows, data accuracy, and permissions — and lead system implementations and process enhancements. Employee Relations & Performance Act as the escalation point for complex, sensitive, or high-risk employee relations matters; coach the People & Culture Business Partner on performance concerns requiring formal action plans, documentation, or challenging conversations.Ensure managers complete timely and effective performance evaluations and have the tools and support to lead meaningful performance and development discussions.Collaborate with the Learning & Development Strategist on learning and career development program design and measuring impact. Culture and Inclusion Promote a positive, inclusive, and transparent culture that reflects our principles, while advancing DEI across all People & Culture functions. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Complete additional responsibilities and support special projects as assigned by the Senior Director, People & Culture. Qualifications Minimum Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.7+ years of progressive HR/People & Culture experience, including strategic HR partnership, People Operations, and people leadership.Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or supervising HR professionals.Strong understanding of HR principles and practices — employee relations, performance management, talent management, organizational development, and HR technology.Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment law with the ability to apply compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll, benefits, and leave administration, including renewals, plan design, and vendor/broker management.Demonstrated experience managing an HRIS — including workflows, integrations, data integrity, permissions, and system implementations.Proven ability to handle complex and sensitive employee relations matters with confidentiality, professionalism, and diplomacy.Experience leading organizational change management and workforce planning initiatives.Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to use people data and HR metrics to guide decisions.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex HR matters.Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, occasionally across time zones, and travel internationally up to 10% annually. Preferred SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or equivalent certification.Experience working with EOR providers and global benefits/employment practices across multiple jurisdictions.Experience with BambooHR or a similar HRIS platform.Experience working in a global, distributed, nonprofit, and/or remote-first organization.Experience supporting organizations through periods of growth or transformation.U.S.-based, preferably Eastern Time Zone. Pay: $115k to $150k annually.
