Position Details

The Human Resources Generalist supports the Office of Human Resources operations by performing a wide range of HR functions with efficiency and accuracy. The position assists with the administration and implementation of relevant HR procedures, policies, processes, reports, documentation, and regulations, as well as the preparation of employee events/functions and special projects.

Job Duties

  • Supports the HR team’s compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the ACA, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, HIPAA, Title VII, and related laws.

  • Provides high-quality, responsive customer service; answers questions from employees and supervisors regarding HR related concerns and policies.

  • Assists with organization-wide Human Resources initiatives such as the annual performance management, anti-harassment training, compensation reviews, audits, and compliance activities.

  • Addresses and handles employee-related issues, escalating complex or sensitive matters as appropriate.

  • Leads, supports, and coordinates employee events and recognition programs, including the creation and ongoing maintenance of recognition initiatives.

  • Identifies and anticipates HR needs based on current or planned business activities and partners across the HR function to develop solutions.

  • Prepares a variety of reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

  • Maintains and updates pay authorization forms, processes, and workflows, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and compliance requirements.

  • Manages the intake, review, and processing of pay authorizations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, proper approvals, and timely submission to Payroll.

  • Partners with Payroll and the UIW community to resolve discrepancies and ensure data integrity across pay-related transactions.

  • Reviews state-specific employment requirements, including leave policies, minimum wage, pay frequency, overtime, rest breaks, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, and disability insurance.

  • Ensures HR policies and procedures reflect best practices and remain in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Creates and maintains position codes within Banner, ensuring alignment with organizational structure, job classifications, and compensation guidelines.

  • Updates and manages supervisor assignments in Banner, ensuring reporting relationships are current and accurately reflected.

  • Performs regular audits of position data and supervisor assignments to ensure accuracy, validate organizational hierarchy, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Identifies and recommends improvements to position management processes, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

  • Prepares and analyzes monthly and annual employee turnover reports, identifying trends and actionable insights to support retention strategies.

  • Prepares workforce analytics and reporting, including headcount, demographics, and organizational metrics.

  • Captures and submits required HR IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.

  • Generates and fulfills employee data requests for leadership, audits, and special initiatives.

  • Coordinates and manages participation in external benchmarking and recognition surveys, including Great Colleges to Work For, overseeing data collection, submission, and results analysis.

  • Ensures the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of HR data, including conducting regular audits.

  • Partners with HR leadership to identify reporting needs and enhance reporting processes and dashboards.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including ADA, ACA, FMLA, HIPAA, Title VII, FLSA, and related statutes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and make effective recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, leadership, and cross-functional partners.

  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute effectively in a team environment and support the coordination of employee events and initiatives.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity, professionalism, and discretion.

  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in complex or sensitive situations.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and reporting); strong proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams or equivalent.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, including creating fillable forms, editing documents, and managing secure files.

  • Experience with, or the ability to quickly learn, HR systems (Banner) and talent management systems (e.g., PeopleAdmin).

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree.

Required Work Experience

Two (2) years of professional human resources work experience.
