About the role

The HR Generalist at Petfolk is responsible for executing and administering core human resources processes across the employee lifecycle, focusing on compliance, accuracy, and operational consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Administer FMLA and other leave of absence (LOA) requests, including reviewing documentation, tracking eligibility and timelines, and ensuring accurate communication and recordkeeping.

  • Maintain and audit HRIS employee records, including job changes, compensation updates, terminations, and routine data integrity reviews.

  • Support workers' compensation administration by providing administrative support on claims, maintaining documentation, and tracking outcomes.

  • Manage administrative aspects of unemployment and other post-employment claims, including preparing responses to state agencies and maintaining required records.

  • Prepare and review compliance-related reports, audits, and documentation to support federal, state, and local employment requirements.

  • Respond to employee and manager questions related to HR policies, processes, and systems; escalate issues that require higher-level review or interpretation to Human Resources Business Partners.

  • Partner with HR leadership and cross-functional teams to support consistent application of HR practices and work on various HR projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of progressive human resources experience, ideally in a generalist or HR operations role, with solid working knowledge of HR practices and employment compliance.

  • Hands-on background administering leaves of absence, workers' compensation, and unemployment claims, along with other employment-related processes.

  • Comfortable maintaining employee data and processing employment changes within an HRIS platform — Rippling experience is a plus.

  • A track record preparing HR reports, reviewing data for accuracy, and supporting compliance audits and regulatory reporting.

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to handle confidential information and apply policies consistently and with sound judgment.

  • Solid time management skills and the ability to juggle competing deadlines without losing track of details.

  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication, with good instincts for when to handle something directly versus escalate.

  • Ability to work independently while staying aligned with HR leadership and cross-functional business partners.

  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Google Office Suite or similar tools.

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws; multi-state workforce experience is a plus.

Schedule

Full-time, remote position with up to 10% travel to HQ locations or pet care centers for in-person meetings.
