About the Role
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing the human resources functions of the company, including recruitment, selection, benefits, compensation, employee relations, and training and development.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Talent Acquisition process from recruitment to onboarding, including updating job descriptions, posting positions, sourcing, phone screens, setting up interviews, managing pre-employment screening, coordinating orientation, and overseeing the 90-day onboarding process.
- Drive talent management initiatives such as performance management, engagement surveys, employee referral programs, employee recognition programs, exit interviews, and succession planning activities.
- Process bi-weekly payroll via NetSuite, including inputting employee changes, maintaining compliant payroll records, and communicating regulatory changes.
- Manage the benefit enrollment process for new hires and open enrollment, coordinate paperwork related to benefits, retirement plans (including 401(k)), COBRA continuation, workers' compensation, and unemployment. Recommend benefit plan offerings.
- Boost employee morale, motivation, and retention through diversity, inclusion, and wellness programs.
- Manage all employee complaints and internal investigations, including EEOC, DOL, and unemployment claims. Recommend disciplinary action and work directly with legal counsel on legal matters.
- Process all workers' compensation paperwork, monitor cases with the insurance carrier, and manage job restrictions or light duty assignments.
- Process unemployment compensation interrogatories and participate in adjudication hearings on behalf of the company.
- Maintain OSHA-related logs for compliance, complete annual reporting, and ensure proper labor postings are displayed at all locations.
- Document and process all Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork as appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in general business, business administration, human resources, or a related field; 1-3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in a human resources generalist role is required.
- Professional Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM-CP certification is desired.
- Previous experience in the logistics and distribution industry is desired.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Ability to speak in front of an audience.
- Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal employment-related laws.
- Strong attention to detail, coaching, and counseling skills.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, insurance regulations, COBRA administration, workers' compensation, and 401(k) plans.
- Ability to train and motivate employees at all levels, analyze data, and make sound decisions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with company records.
- Proficiency in operating office equipment such as printers, copiers, and scanners.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English; Spanish is desired.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and execute accordingly.
- Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without an assistive device (greater weights may be required with assistive devices).
- Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Primarily operates in a professional office environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
- May require work in a warehouse environment with moderate safety/health hazard potential.
- Noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
- May require work beyond standard office hours (8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday) and on weekends.
