About the role

McNICHOLS, the leading and trusted supplier of metal products including perforated, grating, mesh, expanded, and designer metals, is seeking a proactive, service-minded HR professional to join our corporate HR team as a Human Resource Generalist. This role supports over 325 associates across 20 locations nationwide and involves various HR functions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day HR administration, ensuring accurate employee records and data management.
  • Process employee lifecycle transactions including hires, transfers, promotions, leaves, separations, and organizational updates.
  • Maintain HRIS records, personnel files, and compliance documentation.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives that strengthen morale, culture, retention, and team effectiveness.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, payroll, leave programs, and workplace resources.
  • Administer leave of absence programs, coordinating documentation, tracking, return-to-work activities, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate benefits administration activities and support annual enrollment programs and employee education sessions.
  • Support audits related to 401k, payroll, I-9 documentation, employee records, and other compliance requirements.
  • Assist with workers' compensation claims, including reporting, documentation, tracking, and coordination with claim representatives.
  • Coordinate onboarding programs, new hire orientations, informational meetings, and employee communications.
  • Partner with managers to support performance management.
  • Maintain HR communication boards and wellness information.
  • Process payroll as a secondary resource as needed.
  • Contribute to special projects and other HR initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of Human Resources experience with a broad range of professional responsibilities including extensive experience supporting HR operations, payroll, benefits, leave administration, and HR compliance activities.
  • Knowledge of employment law, compliance requirements, and HR best practices.
  • Exceptional in maintaining confidential employee records and handling sensitive information.
  • Advanced proficiency with technology including HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative and resourceful with a focus on creating a positive employee experience.
  • Highly organized and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing, distribution, or other operations environment preferred.
