Human Resources Generalist
About the role
Heritage Classical Academy is seeking a qualified Human Resources Generalist. The Generalist serves as an important member of the team, supporting the mission of the school by cultivating a Christ-centered, healthy, and thriving workplace culture. This individual will be responsible to manage day-to-day HR administrative operations, support organizational culture and policies, and ensure compliance with employment laws; requires a broad knowledge of all HR functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding and orientation, training, employee relations, benefits administration. The HR Generalist ensures that all HR practices align with the school’s Christian mission, core values, and commitment to cultivating lifelong learning.
Job Requirements
- Full support of Heritage’s Statement of Faith, Mission, and Vision statements
- Committed Christian with active membership in a local church
- Three to five years or more of related experience and a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration from a four-year college or university OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least three years of experience as a Human Resource Generalist with a service-based organization
- Demonstrated experience in most Human Resource functions and practices
- At least one year of prior experience working within an academic environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the use of an HRIS
- Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices, particularly within Ohio
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with integrity and discretion
- SHRM-CP or equivalent certification preferred

Job Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support as needed on all HR related matters; works closely with the Director of Human Resource to execute and support various organizational policies, programs and procedures; assists in all areas of the department impacting HR functions.
- Posts job openings, recruits, interviews, and hiring of qualified applicants for open positions; collaborates with managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Reviews applications and interviews candidates to obtain work history, education, training, job skills, and salary requirements; provides information about the position and organization.
- Evaluates candidates for cultural and positional fit to identify the most suitable individuals for support, service, and first-level management positions.
- Prepares offer letters and related documentation for new hire processing; conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Administers various aspects of new hire onboarding and orientation program; verifies I-9 documentation and ensures the accuracy of all employee data entered in the HRIS.
- Supports employee training and development and performance recognition programs.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education; includes safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
- Performs tasks required to administer and execute compensation, leave, performance and talent management, occupational health and safety programs.
- Understands and communicates to employees the various benefits offered; coordinates and assists employees during open enrollment and organizational training and development efforts.
- Responds to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disputes, disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies utilized for Human Resource management.
- Serves as the primary back-up for the semi-monthly processing of payroll; follows a prescribed, orderly sequence to ensure all steps are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
- Documents and implements system and software integrations, trainings, practices and works to simplify and automate integrations with other technology and technology partners.
