About the role
The Human Resources Generalist supports the HR department at Elmwood Village Charter Schools, overseeing recruitment, benefits administration, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process
- Partner with leaders and hiring managers to identify staffing needs
- Lead the onboarding process, ensuring all new hires complete required documentation, trainings, and background checks
- Conduct new hire orientations to introduce employees to EVCS culture, policies, and benefits
- Coordinate open enrollment and administer employee benefits programs
- Avoid benefits inquiries, open enrollment periods, form completion, and life event changes
- Oversee payroll processing and accurate tracking of hours, leaves of absence, PTO, deductions, and salary adjustments
- Maintain meticulous, confidential personnel files in compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Track and audit employee certifications, licenses, and continuing education credits
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for employee inquiries regarding school policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
- Promote a positive, inclusive school culture aligned with EVCS’s core values
- Aid in the annual performance evaluation process
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field. Masters Degree highly valued
- Certification: PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification highly preferred
- Experience: 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a K-12 education setting, charter school, or non-profit organization
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and New York State labor laws (FMLA, PFL, ADA, Workers’ Comp), and Title IX
- Technology: Proficiency with HRIS platforms, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), Payroll systems, and Microsoft Office Suite / Google Workspace
- Discretion & Trust: Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity
- Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented school environment
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills
