Human Resources Generalist
About the role
As an HR Generalist in Champlain College's People Center, you'll provide essential administrative and systems support to employees across the institution while serving as our primary communication lead for students, faculty, and staff. This is a dynamic, people-centered role where no two days look the same. You'll manage HRIS processes and data, keep HR operations running smoothly, and provide day-to-day support that touches every corner of campus.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate student employment for the college, serving as a liaison between student supervisors and the People Center
- Create and deliver supervisor and student training related to student employment in coordination with the Senior HR Generalist
- Provide administrative and technical assistance and support to students and supervisors, including hiring, I-9 compliance, time card submission, and terminations
- Partner with Financial Aid and the Career Collaborative team, and participate in the annual student Job Fair, to guide students through the employment process
- Manage communication efforts for the People Center, including the weekly institutional newsletter, and triage requests through various channels such as the ticketing system
- Coordinate and participate in the delivery of New Hire Orientation
- Support employee recognition programs and engagement initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and welcoming workplace culture
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- 1-2 years of HR or administrative experience; experience in a higher education setting a plus
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employees, faculty, and staff
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing and resolving HR issues
- Able to handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly and work collaboratively across the institution at all levels
- Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite tools, and a commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and belonging-centered organization
Work Arrangement
Full-time, in-person position based at our main campus in Burlington, VT. Standard business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, with occasional evening or weekend hours for campus events. Comfortable office environment; sometimes requires travel between the main campus and lakeside office for meetings.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual Salary: $50,000 - $54,000
