About the role

The Human Resources Manager oversees and manages the operations of the Human Resources Department, ensuring compliance with policies, coordination of benefits, compensation, offer letters, promotions, terminations, investigations, and all other HR-related issues. This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment with a focus on administration, compliance, analysis, and customer service. Travel to branch office locations is required.

Responsibilities

  • Create and send out all offers, promotion, and termination letters.
  • Oversee the applicant tracking system with the Talent Acquisition Specialist and Human Resources Generalist.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and employment advertising.
  • Administer drug screens.
  • Prepare HR reports for executive management meetings.
  • Assist with all training seminars.
  • Administer FMLA, LOA, STD, and LTD.
  • Manage salary administration.
  • Oversee the career fair and outreach spreadsheet for AAP with the HR/Recruiting Coordinator and Human Resources Generalist.
  • Manage invoices and time sheets for temporary employees, coordinating with department managers when necessary.
  • Manage the Company’s Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Oversee volunteer efforts and employee engagement.
  • Visit branch offices as necessary.
  • Handle all EEOC complaints, terminations, and investigations.
  • Consult on employee benefits as needed.
  • Oversee the tuition reimbursement program.
  • Oversee the implementation of Human Resources programs through HR staff.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and resolution of problems.
  • Manage and develop reporting Human Resources staff.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of HR policies, programs, and practices to keep management informed of new developments.
  • Establish and lead standard recruiting and hiring practices to recruit and hire a superior workforce.
  • Formulate and recommend HR policies and objectives on employee relations and rights.
  • Partner with management to communicate HR policies, procedures, programs, and laws.
  • Coach and train managers in communication, feedback, recognition, and interaction with employees.
  • Ensure managers understand how to ethically, honestly, and legally communicate with employees.
  • Monitor and advise managers on the company’s progressive discipline system.
  • Review, guide, and approve management recommendations for employment terminations.
  • Update the Employee Handbook and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with current employment laws.
  • Represent the company at local community events when requested.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR certification is preferred.
  • 10+ years of HR experience is required.
  • 5+ years of HR management experience is required.
  • HRIS experience is required.
  • FMLA experience is required.
  • Benefits administration experience is required.
  • Recruitment experience is required.
  • Previous experience working in a union environment is preferred.
  • Ability to travel to local and out-of-state branch offices is required.
  • Knowledge of federal and multi-state employment laws and regulations is required.
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations is required.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship-building and employee coaching skills are required.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and particularly Excel) skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) is required.
  • General knowledge of employment laws and experience working with a corporate employment law attorney is required.
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results is required.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with employees and management at all levels is required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, see, talk, walk, reach with hands and arms, and hear.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods.
  • Operation of a computer, telephone, headphone, mailroom cart, and copiers/fax machine is required.
  • Ability to understand simple memos and business letters is required.
  • Ability to write simple memos and summaries is required.
  • May require commuting to customer and company locations by land and air.

Work Environment

The employee may expect to work in typical office environment conditions except when visiting field locations.
