Human Resources Associate - Benefits
About the role
The HR Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the benefits team at the City of Springfield. They assist employees in the retirement process, manage benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations, and present benefit program information to employee groups.
Responsibilities
- Aid employees in the retirement process by providing guidance on available benefits, handling required documentation, and ensuring a smooth transition from active employment to retirement.
- Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations resulting from new hires, qualifying life events, and separations.
- Maintain accurate employee benefit records and ensure data is correctly entered into HR and payroll systems.
- Support annual open enrollment by preparing communications, educating employees, and processing elections.
Requirements
- An understanding of the administration of an employee benefits program.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the City.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Public or Business Administration, or a related field.
- Up to two years of related experience or an active PHR or SHRM-CP certification may substitute for some of the formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
