Responsibilities
- Ensure employees are current in Health, Safety and Security (HSS) topics.
- Develop, distribute, review and revise safety and health policies and procedures to maintain compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Keep regulatory documents/plans current and revise as needed to adapt to changes in operations.
- Monitor operations in real-time to identify inefficiencies in safety and security and implement corrective actions.
- Cook up and train the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff, including security guards.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback and coaching, and address employee issues or concerns as needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of safety procedures, incidents, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, identify hazards, and implement safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Help develop and manage the HSS budget, including expenses for personnel, equipment, maintenance, and infrastructure improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Industrial Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in safety and compliance leadership within terminal, petrochemical, or industrial operations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, USCG, EPA and MTSA regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing safety management systems, conducting audits, and leading incident investigations.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH, or CHMM preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- TWIC card required or ability to obtain.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
- Must pass all pre-employment testing including drug test, physical, and background check.
- Availability (24/7) for emergency response as operational needs require, and adherence to the on-call schedule.
Physical Demands
- Ability to walk, stand, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around bulk materials, railcars, vessels, tanks, and heavy equipment.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces may be required.
- Exposure to high temperatures, loud noises, and hazardous materials may occur in industrial environments.
- Physical stamina and endurance to work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods.
