Job Overview

APTIM is seeking an HSE Specialist to join our team in Linden, New Jersey. This role develops, implements, maintains, and manages project health and safety, worker's compensation, and safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure implementation of the Project Accident Prevention Plan, EM 385-1-1 and applicable client procedures.
  • Conduct Site Safety Orientations and Site Required Training to all APTIM personnel with emphasis on excavation safety, confined space entry requirements and fall protection.
  • Act as competent person for excavation, confined space and fall protection tasks.
  • Participate in and facilitate the APTIM Target Observation program; monitor and analyze safety observation trends and implement corrective actions designed to improve results.
  • Ensure day-to-day safety work processes are followed (e.g., rigging and material handling safety, client Permits, required personal gas monitoring, JSA implementation, routine safety inspections and reporting).
  • Perform the daily tailgate safety meetings to ensure hazards are understood by the work crew.
  • Aid in developing and reviewing Activity Hazard Analyses, Review and Submit the AHAs to the client for acceptance.
  • Assist Supervisors on daily walk-downs and weekly safety supervisor inspections.
  • Reviewing and communication of daily lessons learned in morning meetings and at other appropriate times in the field.
  • Facilitate proper incident investigations for all accidents and injury management according to current Safety Plan and Site Safety and APTIM Expectations in coordination with other agencies as required; communicate verbally and written initial incident notification to Site Safety and APTIM Management.
  • Provide injury management leadership; case management, visits to clinic as needed. Following up with employee injury progress.
  • Enter all accident, incident data, near misses and great catches in the APTIM Incident Management System (AIM).
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, governmental agency, and other applicable safety, environmental standards and regulations and worker's compensation laws.
  • Monitor federal, state, regional, and local safety regulations for impact on APTIM and recommend changes as needed.
  • Administers the medical surveillance program.
  • Administers and monitors the worker's compensation program.
  • Serves as the liaison with governmental agencies.
  • Congratulates and coordinates with Corporate Safety and Environmental Health to maintain compliance with APTIM plans and programs.
  • Performs and/or coordinates safety related training including APTIM and Client required training.
  • Works with Managers and employees to correct findings discovered during inspections.
  • Aids in conducting Job Safety Analysis and Safety Observation Program and monthly project safety council meetings.

Qualifications

  • 5 years professional-level experience in Health, Safety and Environmental with Federal Government or Federal Government contractor.
  • 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training Class.
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-Hr Refresher.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as moderate to advanced computer and presentation skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED training.
  • Large excavation and/or heavy construction experience.
  • Experience working under EM-385, EM 385 is preferred but not required.
  • Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or similar advanced safety certification is preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits

A good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $80,000 - $130,000 Per Year. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
