HS&E Supervisor

About the Role

Orion Marine Group is seeking a field safety supervisor for the Gulf Coast Region. This position is accountable for developing and maintaining programs and policies in the areas of Employee Safety & Incident Prevention, Safe Work Practices, Safety Training, OSHA Compliance, Workers Compensation, Field Safety Audits, Emergency Response, Employee Wellness, Risk Management, Fire Protection, Pollution Prevention, and Safety Policies & Procedures. The incumbent provides safety management oversight for marine construction operations across all geographic locations where the Company operates, ensuring effective execution and technical support of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) programs.

Responsibilities

• Ensures field safety programs and policies are in place to promote a safe work environment and comply with state and federal regulatory guidelines.
• Monitors and implements Project Specific Safety Plans, Employee Safety, Incident Prevention Programs, and Safe Work Practices.
• Collaborates with the safety management team to establish short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the Company’s HS&E programs.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Coast Guard, USACE, EM385-1-1, and MSHA, to ensure compliance.
• Maintains a proactive internal safety audit program at project sites to monitor compliance with Company safety standards.
• Participates in incident and near-miss investigations, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Recommends changes to standard operating procedures and corporate safety policies and procedures.
• Contributes to updating and distributing the Company’s HS&E Policies and Procedures and other employee publications.
• Provides support and ensures consistency in the interpretation and implementation of HS&E policies, practices, and procedures.
• Supports the development of bid proposals, including Construction Site Safety Plans, emergency action plans, and statistical information.
• Provides administrative, analytical, and project support for the Safety department, maintaining office files and the Safety Management System database.
• Assists with Safety inspections and audits as a team member.
• Analyzes Safety statistical data to identify areas for continuous improvement.
• Provides claims administrative support by reporting, documenting, and gathering insurance-related information.
• Keeps Regional HSE Management and local management informed on safety and health issues and progress toward safety goals.
• Monitors and conducts workplace safety orientations for new employees and refreshes training for existing employees.
• Develops and delivers Safety Training, including New Hire Safety Orientation, HSE Policy Training, General Safety Training, First Aid, CPR, and AED Training.
• Monitors and promotes the Target Zero Safety program, recognizing successful employee and management efforts.
• Participates in and leads Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and improve existing programs.
• Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and trade secret information.
• Ensures personal safety and the safety of co-workers, stopping work when unsafe conditions are observed.
• Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
• Performs other related administrative and technical duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience (marine/heavy civil experience preferred).
• OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
• Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certification such as CHST or STSC (preferred).
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and EM 385-1-1.
• Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
• Experience developing and delivering safety training and leading safety meetings.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
• Ability and willingness to travel as required to support project sites throughout the assigned region.
• Working knowledge of Safety Management, local, state, and federal Safety Regulations, Incident Prevention, Emergency Response, Risk Management, and Standard Safety Policies & Procedures.
• Prior experience in Marine Construction is preferred.
• Strong training, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with employees at all organizational levels.

• Capable of standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, or sitting for long periods.
• Ability to access confined spaces or climb to elevated areas.
• Ability to adapt to extreme temperature changes and outdoor conditions.
• Must have a clean driving record and pass required physical and drug/alcohol screening.
• Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management.
• Ability to develop and foster a positive work environment and resolve conflicts using problem-solving skills.
• Resourcefulness and creativity to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Company standards.
