About The Role

Acorns is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive HR Operations Specialist to join our HR Operations team on a contract basis. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of our HR processes during a period of significant operational change. Your primary responsibilities will include managing employee lifecycle activities, ensuring data integrity within our HRIS (Workday), and supporting cross-functional stakeholder collaboration across our global team. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact behind the scenes, ensuring that HR operations run smoothly and compliantly. As a remote-first organization, Acorns provides the flexibility to work from anywhere, with optional access to our Irvine, CA office.

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in HR operations, people operations, HR coordination, or similar fast-paced roles
  • Experience with HRIS systems, preferably Workday, including employee lifecycle transactions and basic reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and a track record of delivering accurate, timely work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across multiple channels
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines without compromising quality
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Asana, and Slack
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential employee information with professionalism and discretion
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements such as US I-9 and UK right to work checks (preferred)
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to issue identification and resolution
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment

Responsibilities

  • Execute onboarding and offboarding processes for employees and contractors globally, ensuring adherence to SOPs and accuracy within Workday
  • Process employment changes, including job moves, organizational updates, contract amendments, and managerial updates
  • Prepare and review employment documentation such as change letters and amendments, supporting proper storage and compliance
  • Coordinate with HR, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, IT, Accounting, and Payroll teams to ensure timely completion of lifecycle activities
  • Manage background check requests and follow up on their progress, maintaining clear communication with relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure data accuracy by performing routine audits, flag discrepancies, and support data cleanup initiatives
  • Assist in generating reports and responding to data requests from HR and business partners
  • Support compliance monitoring activities such as US I-9 and UK right to work checks during onboarding
  • Review and update onboarding and lifecycle compliance materials regularly to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Adhere to established SOPs, identify process improvements, and escalate issues proactively
  • Maintain effective communication with HR partners and cross-functional teams through Workday, Asana, Slack, and email
  • Surface potential risks to timelines and escalate issues early to prevent bottlenecks
