About Us

The Contractor Consultants (TCC) is a fast-growing, fully remote B2B services company that builds high-performance revenue teams. Growing over 15x in three years, we manage over 3,000 distributed team members and are building a strong internal foundation.

The Opportunity

As our first in-house HR Manager, you will build, own, and design the human resources function from scratch for a hyper-growth organization. Working alongside our Employee Success team, you will professionalize multi-state operations to protect a rapidly expanding distributed workforce. This is a hands-on builder role where your systems architecture will directly safeguard thousands of team members.

Responsibilities

  • Translate an in-flight HR audit into a comprehensive, scalable HR playbook with clear processes and documentation.
  • Manage core HR operations and compliance for US employees and international contractors, ensuring strict adherence to localized labor laws.
  • Standardize onboarding and offboarding workflows by role and location, streamlining new hire paperwork and state registrations.
  • Own the Employee Handbook and core HR policies, balancing legal minimums with proactive risk reduction to guide leadership.
  • Serve as the primary HR contact for remote, multi-state employee issues, utilizing sound judgment to resolve complex personal situations.
  • Oversee HR data integrity and centralize records within the HRIS to eliminate scattered documentation.
  • Build a central HR operations manual complete with SOPs, checklists, and video guides to ensure seamless future department scaling.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of hands-on HR generalist experience specifically within small business or startup environments.
  • Proven experience owning human resources operations for a fully remote, multi-state US workforce.
  • Mandatory hands-on experience supporting labor law compliance and employee relations within the state of California.
  • Strong background in federal, state, and local HR compliance and building operational workflows from the ground up.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain legal risks in plain English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting HR compliance in Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, or Pennsylvania.
  • HR leadership background in fast-paced B2B services, agency, or high-volume outbound environments.
  • Prior experience utilizing AI tools to research employment laws, draft policies, and verify compliance documentation.

Pay

Target base salary between $110,000 and $140,000 USD, depending on experience and location.

Benefits

  • Full-time W-2 employment status within a 100% remote, flexible work environment.
  • Direct professional autonomy to design and shape an entire HR department from the early stages.
  • Collaborative and fast-moving team culture dedicated to scaling long-term business outcomes.
