About the Role
The HR Manager leads day-to-day HR operations for our Portland and greater Oregon team, working 100% on-site with ownership of the full HR lifecycle, including talent management, employee relations, and performance development. This role has a heavy focus on benefits, leaves, and compliance, providing expertise for our locations in Oregon and San Diego. You will play a critical role in our HRIS rollout and other projects as we build out our HR infrastructure to match our growth. You'll partner closely with the HR Director and cross-functional leaders, with real input into shaping our future.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor team members, providing coaching and development opportunities to grow their skills and careers.
- Foster a culture of open communication and serve as the first point of escalation for the team.
- Provide day-to-day direction and guidance to help the team meet their goals.
- Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Oversee recruitment strategies, ATS training, and partnerships with hiring teams to ensure full compliance with pre-employment screenings (background checks/FCRA) and federal/state regulations (I-9s).
- Ensure a flawless end-to-end onboarding program, from offer acceptance to a comprehensive new hire orientation, setting employees up for long-term success.
- Employee Relations and Investigations
- Advise on driving results through coaching, goal setting, and individual development planning to foster effective conversations between managers and employees.
- Own the performance improvement process, including PIPs, corrective action documentation, and separation decisions.
- Lead investigations into employee relations matters with discretion and structured documentation.
- Leave, Benefits & Compliance
- Manage new hire enrollments, qualifying life event changes, annual Open Enrollment, and benefit terminations with timely and accurate processing.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions and issue resolution.
- Oversee leave of absence administration, including FMLA, state leave laws, and the ADA interactive process.
- Systems, Reporting & Process
- Maximize HR technology systems, optimizing HRIS, ATS, leave management, and supporting software platforms to drive data integration and process efficiency.
- Document and scale foundational people management workflows, building a robust HR SOP library and training teams on execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of HR experience, including 1 to 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity, with strong knowledge of California and/or Oregon employment law.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
- Advanced knowledge of HR software platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification, or active pursuit of certification.
- Experience supporting an HRIS implementation or system rollout.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform repetitive hand movements, and frequently use phone and computer systems.
- Occasionally bend or lift up to 30 lbs.
