HR Generalist – Fulfillment Centers

About the Role

You will serve as the on-site HR presence for Backcountry's Virginia Fulfillment Center, owning the full people function for a high-volume hourly workforce. Your decisions will directly shape culture, retention, and operational performance. Your scope spans every touchpoint of the employee lifecycle, with impact felt daily on the floor. Success at 6-12 months includes measurable improvement in turnover, a stronger supervisory team, and efficient handling of employee relations with zero compliance exposure. This is a lean team where you will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.

Location: Christiansburg, VA, On-site

Responsibilities

• Operational HR Partnership: Serve as a key HR partner to fulfillment center leaders on day-to-day people operations. Participate in decision-making discussions impacting staffing, retention, and culture. Create accountability through shared ownership of people metrics and leadership cross-training.
• Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Lead local onboarding efforts, ensuring a welcoming and consistent new hire experience.
• Employee Experience & Retention: Champion the full employee lifecycle—from onboarding to development milestones and recognition. Identify trends from exit interviews and employee feedback to improve retention and engagement. Collaborate with the team to set and track clear retention goals.
• Training & Development: Design and deliver supervisor training and development programs. Upskill leaders through instructor-led sessions and on-the-job support.
• HR Operations & Compliance: Maintain accurate employee records and compliance documentation. Partner with Safety and Operations teams to support OSHA initiatives and maintain a culture of safety. Assist in employee relations matters, conduct investigations, and recommend appropriate next steps. Support DEI and engagement initiatives at the local level.
• Data & Reporting: Create and share monthly HR metrics with site leadership, contributing to broader reporting consistency across locations. Track progress on key indicators including turnover, hiring performance, engagement scores, and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in an HR Generalist or related role—ideally in a fulfillment, logistics, or manufacturing setting.
• Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR fundamentals.
• Comfortable supporting both hourly and salaried employees in a high-paced, frontline environment.
• Proactive communicator who builds trust and influences across all levels.
• Demonstrated success with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and retention.
• Experience with HRIS systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Bonus: Familiarity with OSHA or safety regulations in an operational setting.
