HR Generalist
Position Summary
The HR Generalist serves as a trusted partner to managers and employees across STERIS' Sterility Assurance Products business, providing day-to-day HR support, guidance, and solutions that drive employee engagement and business success. This role supports ~170 hourly and salaried employees across 4 manufacturing operations in Mentor, Ohio and Franklin Park, Illinois.
About the role
This position is located at one of our STERIS facilities (9325 Pinecone Drive, Mentor, OH) and is primarily an on-site role. The HR Generalist is expected to build strong relationships with employees and leaders across all shifts: 1st Shift: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 3rd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m. Weekend Shift: Friday–Sunday, 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. To effectively support the workforce, the HR Generalist will periodically adjust their schedule by starting earlier or staying later to engage with off-shift employees. This typically includes occasional evening coverage (approximately 1–2 times per month) for employee meetings, training, and relationship-building, as well as regular interaction with weekend-shift team members. Periodic travel to the Franklin Park, IL facility is also expected.
Responsibilities
- Oversees recruiting activity for business group, typically working with Talent Acquisition Partners from the COE or external recruiters.
- Focused on ensuring talent acquisition needs are well defined, resources and processes are in place to meet objectives, and participates in the selection process to help select the right candidates.
- Provides guidance to managers so new hires are onboarded effectively.
- Partners with business to address compensation matters.
- Aids managers in developing accurate and concise job descriptions, defining skill, knowledge and competency requirements for roles.
- Promotes and implements compensation changes or total reward programs across employee groups, to include providing effective communications.
- Supports and helps to develop change management efforts to foster adoption of HR or business changes.
- Handles employee relations and/or union avoidance issue resolution. Directly handles routine ER issues, conducts investigations and recommends solutions. Develops and implements programs to foster positive employee relations.
- Supports the business in the annual employee engagement survey and action planning process. Provides guidance to managers as they handle routine performance issues and talent development actions.
- Supports succession planning and employee development plan creation.
- Supports HR business partner in developing customized programs to meet business needs.
- Conducts HR research, project support, reporting/analytics, and champions global HR initiatives.
- Conducts employee orientations, and facilitates other HR training sessions as needed.
- Facilitates new leader assimilations and focus group meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (human resources, organizational development, behavioral sciences, or business administration)
- 2-4 years relevant HR experience
- 1-3 years of recruiting, staffing, and employee relations experience
- Working knowledge of employment law, AAP, performance management practices, and employee relations practices
- Proficiency with HR systems (HRIS, ATS)
- Knowledge and application of current HR trends, best practices and compliance issues
Skills and Abilities
- Works under some direction, will work independently with managers and employees to resolve issues
- Works at a tactical level, but beginning to understand business strategies and aligns work in support of these goals
- Performance management, recruitment, ER issues, and Coordinator areas

Pay Range
The Pay range for this opportunity is $60,500 - $88,825.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.
