About the role

Our HR Generalist is responsible for the local delivery and execution of core HR services to employees and managers at the Grandview headquarters facility. In this role you will perform a variety of employment-related functions for the ultimate purpose of enhancing employee engagement, productivity, and ensuring employee compliance with company policies. This role partners closely with the Director of Human Resources on employee relations matters and serves as the first point of contact for day-to-day HR support.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes self as the 'go to' HR resource for managers and employees at the Grandview facility.
  • Develops effective working relationships with local leadership and employees to influence and coach them on effective employment practices.
  • Partners with local management on various employment matters including performance management issues, employee inquiries or complaints, and the implementation of company-wide HR activities such as Ethics/Integrity Training, the Employee Survey, and the Performance Review and Goal Setting process.
  • Conducts initial intake, documentation, and fact-finding for employee relations concerns and policy violations; recommends appropriate corrective action. Escalates complex investigations, terminations, and matters with potential legal risk to the Director of Human Resources before any action is communicated to the employee.
  • Seeks counsel from Legal as necessary, in coordination with the Director of Human Resources, to ensure proper risk management.
  • Stays current on state and federal employment laws (including Missouri-specific requirements) and company policy. Shares 'need to know' information with managers to help improve their supervisory effectiveness.
  • Administers leave of absence programs, including FMLA, and supports the ADA interactive accommodation process; tracks leave status and return-to-work coordination in partnership with the Director of Human Resources on complex or contested cases.
  • Supports wage-and-hour compliance for the non-exempt population, including timekeeping and attendance record review, meal/rest break tracking, and escalation of pay discrepancies.
  • Owns full-cycle recruiting for assigned openings at the Grandview facility, including requisition intake, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, offer support, and background check/drug screening coordination. Participates in the interview process for openings as requested by the Hiring Manager.
  • Processes employment transactions (hires, transfers, equity adjustments, promotions, etc.) and maintains employee data reflecting employment trends and progress toward key initiatives or expectations. Supports basic compensation administration, including offer guidance within established ranges and market data pulls as requested.
  • Maintains personnel files and employment records in compliance with recordkeeping and retention requirements, including I-9 completion and periodic audits. Supports the Director of Human Resources in assembling records for subpoenas, audits, or legal requests.
  • Coordinates day-one activities for new employee onboarding following a prescribed checklist, and manages offboarding activities for departing employees, including exit interviews, COBRA notice triggers, unemployment claim response, and systems/access offboarding.
  • May deploy training to inform or assist employees/managers on job-related activities, policies, or best practices.
  • Provides training and support for e-tools, including UKG, SharePoint, Performance Management, and the Employee Engagement survey; maintains data integrity within the HRIS.
  • Tracks and reports basic HR metrics for the facility (e.g., turnover, time-to-fill, exit interview themes) to support HR and business planning.
  • Provides input for process/policy improvement.
  • Implements HR programs, processes, and procedures emanating from Centers of Excellence (COEs) or other HR leadership areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum 1 year of HR Generalist experience, ideally supporting a mixed exempt/non-exempt population.
  • Solid human resources generalist skills, especially in talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, leave administration, and, where applicable, labor law.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and wage-and-hour (FLSA) fundamentals; familiarity with Missouri state employment law is a plus.
  • Must be able to quickly gain trust and build relationships, while maintaining sound judgment about when to escalate sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated success at influencing and coaching employees and business leaders is required.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to juggle multiple and competing priorities and to handle confidential information with discretion.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at the Grandview, MO headquarters facility, working alongside the site leadership team.
