About the role

The HR Director at Bachus & Schanker will play a pivotal role in transforming our human resources function into a strategic powerhouse. This role is designed to elevate our HR practices through innovative systems and technology, ensuring our HR operations align with the firm's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • HR Operations Leadership: Lead all aspects of HR operations across multiple offices, including payroll administration, benefits management, leave administration, workers' compensation, employee relations, separations, compliance, 401(k) administration, and HR policy oversight.
  • Talent Acquisition Leadership: Partner with and mentor the firm's internal recruiter, oversee recruiting operations, develop hiring best practices, and continuously improve talent acquisition strategies to support firm growth.
  • Systems & Technology Leadership: Maximize UKG and other HR technologies by implementing automated workflows, templates, onboarding processes, timekeeping, benefits communications, payroll workflows, ATS integrations, and employee lifecycle automation. Partner with recruiting and IT to improve operational workflows, reporting capabilities, and technology adoption across the organization.
  • Learning & Development: Modernize onboarding, refresh training materials, strengthen employee development initiatives, and help build scalable learning programs that support long-term employee growth.
  • Performance & Employee Relations: Partner with managers on performance management, disciplinary matters, investigations, corrective action plans, employee separations, and exit interviews while ensuring fair and consistent HR practices.
  • Cultural and People Leadership: Drive engagement and cultivate a positive company culture by acting as a cheerleader for employee morale and engagement.
  • Executive Influence: Participate in strategic decision-making as part of the management team, using data to guide HR policy and practice.
  • Compliance & HR Best Practices: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, maintain accurate HR reporting, establish KPIs, stay current on HR best practices and regulatory changes, and proactively recommend policy and process improvements.
  • Mult-Office Leadership: Maintain a visible presence across the firm's Colorado offices through regular travel, relationship building, and collaboration with leadership and employees to ensure consistent HR support and engagement.
  • Event Coordination: Support internal event planning, adding value to the employee experience with meaningful company gatherings.

Requirements

  • Experienced HR Leader: At least 8+ years of progressive HR experience managing multi-office operations with 100+ employees.
  • Industry Experience: Experience supporting HR functions within a law firm or professional services organization is strongly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient with HRIS systems like UKG, and adept at driving technology adoption for process automation.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to identify operational gaps and recommend scalable solutions, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Executive Presence: Skilled in influencing ownership and leadership, with a data-driven, strategic mindset.
  • Culture Champion: A strong communicator who can promote a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Change Leadership: Proven ability to lead organizational change, drive adoption of new systems and processes, influence executive stakeholders, and implement practical solutions that improve operational effectiveness.
  • Compliance and Process Expertise: Deep understanding of benefits administration, payroll, compliance, and employee relations.

  • Experience in a similar role within a professional services organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant HR laws and regulations.
