About the role

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic and hands-on partner to plant leadership at Scherdel’s Muskegon facility, supporting operational excellence through effective people strategies. This role drives workforce performance, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment, while ensuring alignment with Scherdel North America and global HR standards.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to Plant Manager and functional leaders (Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance)
  • Align workforce strategies with plant KPIs including safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC)
  • Provide coaching to front-line supervisors and managers
  • Support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Lead investigations, corrective actions, and conflict resolution
  • Ensure consistent application of policies and legal compliance
  • Maintain a positive employee relations environment
  • Mitigate risk proactively
  • Drive talent reviews and succession planning
  • Identify and develop high-potential employees
  • Support recruitment for plant roles
  • Ensure effective onboarding for retention
  • Support headcount planning and organizational design
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support plant changes, ramp-ups, and restructuring
  • Analyze turnover, absenteeism, and workforce trends
  • Provide insights to plant leadership
  • Partner to improve productivity and cost outcomes
  • Lead coordination of plant training programs
  • Support onboarding and certification processes
  • Develop leadership capabilities
  • Ensure implementation of HR programs
  • Drive engagement and culture initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred
  • 3 – 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including HR Generalist or HRBP roles
  • Experience in manufacturing or automotive environment strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting plant operations and front-line leadership
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. and Michigan employment laws (ESTA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.)
