About the role
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic and hands-on partner to plant leadership at Scherdel’s Muskegon facility, supporting operational excellence through effective people strategies. This role drives workforce performance, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment, while ensuring alignment with Scherdel North America and global HR standards.
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted advisor to Plant Manager and functional leaders (Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance)
- Align workforce strategies with plant KPIs including safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC)
- Provide coaching to front-line supervisors and managers
- Support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Lead investigations, corrective actions, and conflict resolution
- Ensure consistent application of policies and legal compliance
- Maintain a positive employee relations environment
- Mitigate risk proactively
- Drive talent reviews and succession planning
- Identify and develop high-potential employees
- Support recruitment for plant roles
- Ensure effective onboarding for retention
- Support headcount planning and organizational design
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Support plant changes, ramp-ups, and restructuring
- Analyze turnover, absenteeism, and workforce trends
- Provide insights to plant leadership
- Partner to improve productivity and cost outcomes
- Lead coordination of plant training programs
- Support onboarding and certification processes
- Develop leadership capabilities
- Ensure implementation of HR programs
- Drive engagement and culture initiatives
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred
- 3 – 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including HR Generalist or HRBP roles
- Experience in manufacturing or automotive environment strongly preferred
- Experience supporting plant operations and front-line leadership
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Michigan employment laws (ESTA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.)
