About The Role

This position serves as a strategic and operational people leader for a mission-driven nonprofit organization, driving department stability, positive culture, and organizational outcomes. As the HR Business Partner, you will sit on the senior leadership team and take full ownership of employee relations, leadership development, performance management, and regulatory leave compliance. This high-visibility role balances day-to-day counsel for middle and senior managers with executive-level policy shaping and engagement strategy. The organization is looking for a grounded, influential HR professional who carries themselves with a steady energy and possesses a strong background in risk mitigation. You will act as the principal advisor on complex Oregon and federal leave frameworks (including FMLA, OFLA, and Paid Leave Oregon), guide leadership through performance review cycles, and oversee engagement initiatives that elevate the overall employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations & Investigations: Lead all complex employee relations matters, formal performance management processes, and workplace investigations for a diverse workforce.
  • Leave Administration Expertise: Serve as the primary subject matter expert on Oregon and federal leave regulations, advising managers and supporting the HR Generalist on compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Leadership Coaching & Development: Partner closely with department heads and middle managers to provide strategic coaching, guide performance reviews, and build leadership capability.
  • Engagement & Culture Strategy: Oversee organization-wide engagement initiatives, including employee feedback surveys, staff recognition frameworks, and culture-building events.
  • Policy & Organizational Alignment: Partner with executive leadership to review, refine, and implement HR policies that support departmental stability and nonprofit mission goals.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate across departments to drive organizational outcomes, resolve workplace challenges, and maintain clear communication at all leadership levels.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience leading employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations within an HR function.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in Oregon and federal leave laws (including FMLA, OFLA, and Oregon compliance frameworks).
  • Demonstrated ability to advise executive leadership, communicate complex policy clearly, and influence outcomes across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong risk management mindset paired with an empathetic, solutions-oriented approach to workplace culture.
  • Proven history supporting leadership development and manager coaching within a diverse operational environment.

Qualifications

  • Prior human resources leadership experience within a nonprofit, public sector, or mission-driven organization.
