About the role
The Team Leader oversees 1 or 2 HPP lines, ensuring operations meet expectations and customer demands set by the Operations Manager and HPP Supervisor. This role combines physical and mental tasks, including managing production assembly lines, completing paperwork, and motivating a team to achieve productivity, schedule, safety, and GMP targets.
Responsibilities
- Assign associates to workstations, daily tasks, and expected outcomes.
- Communicate and execute work assignments to meet department and customer requirements.
- Monitor and lead employees during shifts to ensure compliance with GMP and safety regulations.
- Train and hold associates accountable for department, QA, safety, and HPP processes and procedures.
- Complete and review required department paperwork for accuracy.
- Communicate with leadership, QA, and maintenance teams.
- Monitor staff progress and track performance for future line assignments.
- Motivate team members to meet production goals.
- Inspect in-process and finished goods for defects and conformance to specifications.
- Collaborate with machine operators, supervisors, and management to ensure timely order completion.
- Execute line changeovers and ensure proper line clearance processes.
- Handle CIPs (Clean-In-Place) according to documented processes, schedules, and timelines.
- Update the performance board for responsible lines hourly, ensuring accurate data and explanations for any target excursions.
- Optimize labor utilization by reassigning staff as needed due to schedule changes or machine downtime.
- Troubleshoot HPP, conveyors, printers, and other equipment, escalating issues to maintenance with urgency.
- Report persistent or repeat issues to supervisors for disciplinary action.
- Coordinate changeovers with the Quality department and production team to ensure third-party verification.
Requirements
- Machine operator experience is desired.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Ability to meet daily deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven satisfactory attendance record.
- Flexibility with work schedule and job duties in a changing work environment.
- Good communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
- Legible writing skills.
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a cold storage environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Largely static role with long periods of standing and walking; repetitive bending and standing up required.
- Ability to lift 10–35 lbs. repetitively and up to 45 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to push/pull up to 250 lbs. on rollers occasionally.
- Operates in a wet and cold/refrigerated environment (~35°F) within a manufacturing, warehousing, and production facility.
- Must withstand cold temperatures for 8–12 hours per day.
- Facilities may process, pack, and store allergenic food ingredients; ability to work with these ingredients is required for direct-contact roles.
