Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must possess the leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with all personnel.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions and to take directive action when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Housekeeping Department.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be in good general health and able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
- May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day.
- Must be willing to follow correct infection control guidelines including the usage of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the (HIV) AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Essential Functions
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the Housekeeping Department.
- Assures that all Housekeeping Procedures are followed in accordance with Alden policies.
- Directly supervises employees and instructs staff providing in-service to promote job knowledge, safety, and proper sanitation.
- Identifies problems within the housekeeping purview. Develops and implements solutions with the assistance of the Administrator and Corporate Housekeeping and Laundry Coordinator.
- Counsels/disciplines housekeeping personnel in accordance with Alden Work Rules (and Union guidelines if applicable) as requested or as necessary.
- Completes performance evaluations timely.
- Makes rounds regularly to assure that housekeeping personnel are performing required duties, and to assure that appropriate Housekeeping Procedures are being followed.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the Department.
- Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
- Maintains budgetary restraints by following established procedures for preparing purchase orders for review by the Administrator prior to ordering.
- Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the Alden’s Quality Assurance Program for the Housekeeping Department.
- Attends Department Head meetings, Infection Control Meetings, Quality Assurance meetings, and Corporate Housekeeping Meetings, etc. as directed.
- Maintains budgetary restraints by following established procedures for preparing purchase orders for review by the Administrator prior to ordering.
- Plays a part in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the Alden’s Quality Assurance Program for the Housekeeping Department.
