About the role
As the Housekeeping Supervisor, you’ll play an essential role in enriching the lives of seniors, creating meaningful connections, and making a difference every single day. You will provide leadership and hands-on support to the housekeeping team while ensuring the community meets cleanliness, safety, and quality standards. This role is essential in creating a welcoming, well-maintained environment for residents, families, and team members.
Status: Full-time, part-time, or PRN. Schedule and rate of pay vary by location.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support housekeeping team members in daily operations
- Plan, organize, and oversee housekeeping and laundry services in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Ensure safety procedures are followed, including PPE usage, chemical handling, fire safety, and MSDS compliance
- Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly stored and secured when not in use
- Maintain safe work areas by ensuring carts, cords, and equipment do not block exits or walkways
- Oversee infection control practices, including proper biohazard handling and sanitation procedures
- Ensure resident suites, public areas, and support areas meet or exceed cleanliness and quality standards
- Develop and maintain job routines and cleaning instructions for housekeeping staff
- Ensure timely trash collection, removal, and sanitation of disposal areas
- Oversee community laundry operations, including collection, cleaning, and redistribution
- Maintain housekeeping equipment in clean, safe, and operational condition
- Participate in fire drills, safety training, and department in-services
- Assist with department budgeting, labor management, and expense control
- Review financial statements and implement corrective actions as needed
- Complete staffing, scheduling, and timekeeping oversight in alignment with operational guidelines
- Meet with new residents to discuss housekeeping schedules and service preferences
- Order and manage inventory of housekeeping and janitorial supplies within budget guidelines
- Inspect apartments and prepare units prior to resident move-ins
- Respond promptly and courteously to resident service requests
- Report building or equipment concerns to the appropriate leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Two (2) years of supervisory or management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and discipline
- Three (3) years of housekeeping and/or laundry operations experience
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in the primary language of residents
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet use
- Demonstrated interest in working with a senior population
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and delegate effectively
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to work primarily indoors with potential exposure to chemicals, unpleasant odors, and infectious materials
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to regularly lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
