Housekeeping Manager
Overview
The Housekeeping Manager oversees the daily activities of the housekeeping team to ensure exceptional cleanliness and create an outstanding guest experience. This role actively supports the well-being and development of colleagues while meticulously maintaining guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight: Direct and supervise the daily tasks of the housekeeping team, including room attendants and house attendants. Execute daily assignments and procedures as set by senior leadership, ensuring maximum productivity and adherence to high standards.
Conduct regular, detailed inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas to ensure compliance with all cleanliness, safety, and brand standards.
Oversee the distribution and management of guest amenities, linen, and cleaning supplies for optimal use. Work in close coordination with the Front Office and Engineering departments to facilitate smooth guest experience and address any maintenance issues promptly, escalating complex issues to the Director or Assistant Director.
Team Leadership & Colleague Experience: Assist the Assistant Director of Housekeeping with the training, onboarding, and ongoing development of new and existing housekeeping staff, reinforcing best practices and departmental procedures. Provide direct coaching, constructive feedback, and recognition to team members, identifying opportunities for growth and fostering a supportive work environment. Manage staff shifts and breaks, ensuring adequate coverage and adherence to labor guidelines while prioritizing colleague well-being. Address immediate employee concerns and minor disciplinary matters, escalating more complex issues to the Assistant or Director of Housekeeping, always promoting a fair and respectful workplace.
Quality Assurance & Standards Adherence: Implement and enforce established cleaning and sanitation protocols, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety regulations to guarantee a safe and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues. Monitor quality assurance programs on a day-to-day basis, reporting findings and suggesting improvements to the Assistant Director of Housekeeping. Ensure proper care, maintenance, and storage of all housekeeping equipment, reporting any malfunctions or repair needs. Stay informed on brand standards and departmental policies and procedures, ensuring the team is fully compliant.
Exceptional Guest Experience: Enforce all safety and security procedures within the department, ensuring team members are trained and comply with guidelines to protect both guests and colleagues. Ensure proper use and handling of chemicals and equipment by staff, reporting any safety hazards. Maintain accurate daily records and documentation as required by departmental policies.
Qualifications
Proven experience of 2-4 years of previous experience in housekeeping supervisory role, preferably in a full-service hotel or large hospitality environment.
Proven experience in a high-volume, fast-paced urban market, preferably New York City.
Strong leadership capabilities with a genuine commitment to developing and supporting a team.
Solid understanding of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and sanitation standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to give clear instructions, provide constructive feedback, and build positive relationships with colleagues and guests.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Familiarity with hotel property management systems (PMS) and basic computer skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays, as needed.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and handle supplies.
