Housekeeping Aid - Environmental Services Technician
Summary
The Environmental Services Technician performs the full range of manual cleaning tasks relevant to the Louisville VAMC facility.

Duties
- Using buffing and polishing machines, floor strippers, vacuums, and other powered equipment to perform cleaning tasks.
- Applying and removing cleaning chemicals according to specific label directions.
- Making beds, changing linens, collecting soiled linens, delivering clean linen and supplies, checking and replenishing consumable supplies, and removing, transporting, repackaging, disposing, and storing various types of waste.
- Removing and replacing sharps containers as part of service rendered to clinics in patient rooms.
Physical Effort
The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. It requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds. Tasks necessitate considerable dexterity, hand-foot-eye coordination, and concentration, along with visual acuity to see dirt, dust, and debris.
Working Conditions
Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors, exposing employees to varying degrees of heat and cold, as well as inclement weather. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required due to exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood, and bloodborne pathogens. Care must be taken to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders or using heavy equipment.
