Housekeeper/ Food Service Cleaner -Hetch Hetchy Water & Power (Moccasin) – San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (2706) - (166234)

About the role

Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties to maintain quarters for interns and lodgers at the Hetch Hetchy project and other facilities. This on-call, as-needed position is located in Moccasin, CA (3.5 hours east of San Francisco) and typically requires 2–3 days of work per week for the duration of the assignment.

Responsibilities

• Sweep and mop floors.
• Replenish supplies as needed.
• Assist in stripping and waxing floors.
• Clean, dust, and polish furniture; empty trash receptacles.
• Move and clean tables and chairs; remove used trays, dishes, and food; keep trays in order for distribution.
• Operate commercial dishwashers and trash compactors.
• Read and follow Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and chemical-solution instructions.
• Provide information and assistance to the general public.
• Ensure waste is disposed of according to recycling procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

When assigned to quarters at Hetch Hetchy

• Change bed linens, make beds, and launder soiled linens.
• Wash toilets, bathtubs, and shower stalls daily.
• Clean stoves, refrigerators, sinks, shelves, cupboards, dishes, pots, and pans in kitchens.
• Clean inside windows and blinds.
• Assist in the preparation and serving of meals.

Requirements

• One year of verifiable experience in cleaning at a food court or restaurant, or
• One year of verifiable experience in general cleaning and housekeeping at a government or private institutional facility (such as schools, libraries, hospitals, airports) or a large commercial facility (such as stadiums, auditoriums, arenas, hotels).
• Food Safety Sanitation Certificate required within 30 days of appointment.
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required; positions at Hetch Hetchy may require driving in inclement weather and on mountain roads.

Special requirements

• Sustained physical effort involving continuous light work and occasional heavy work in moving or lifting furniture and equipment, with some exposure to accident and injury hazard and disagreeable elements.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work day, swing, or graveyard shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Positions at Hetch Hetchy may require working at guest facilities and bunk houses in remote areas, requiring incumbents to stay several days or weeks at a time.
