About the role

This recruitment is for multiple temporary, on-call seasonal positions not to exceed six months or 1,040 hours. Positions are excluded from the competitive Civil Service examination process and serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer. Work is located in Moccasin, CA (3.5 hours east of San Francisco) and involves cleaning and housekeeping duties for intern and lodger quarters at the Hetch Hetchy project and other facilities.

Expected work schedule is 2-3 days per week for the duration of the assignment.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps and mops floors
• Replenishes supplies as needed
• Assists in stripping and waxing floors
• Cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture; empties trash receptacles
• Moves and cleans tables and chairs; removes used trays, dishes, and food; keeps trays organized
• Operates commercial dishwashers and trash compactors
• Uses and reads Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and chemical solutions
• Provides information and assistance to the general public
• Ensures waste is disposed of according to recycling procedures
• Performs related duties as assigned

When assigned to quarters at Hetch Hetchy:

• Changes bed linens, makes beds, and launders soiled linens
• Washes toilets, bathtubs, and shower stalls daily
• Cleans stoves, refrigerators, sinks, shelves, cupboards, dishes, pots, and pans in kitchens
• Cleans inside windows and blinds
• Assists in the preparation and serving of meals

Requirements

• One year of verifiable experience in cleaning at a food court or restaurant, or
• One year of verifiable experience in general cleaning and housekeeping at a government or private institutional facility (e.g., schools, libraries, hospitals, airports) or a large commercial facility (e.g., stadiums, auditoriums, arenas, hotels)
• Food Safety Sanitation Certificate required within 30 days of appointment
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License

Positions at Hetch Hetchy may require driving in inclement weather and on mountain roads.

Special Requirements

• Ability to perform sustained physical effort involving continuous light work and occasional heavy work, including moving or lifting furniture and equipment (up to 50 pounds)
• Willingness to work day, swing, or graveyard shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Positions at Hetch Hetchy may require working at remote guest facilities and bunkhouses, with stays lasting several days or weeks
• Exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements
