About the role

UC Health is hiring a Part Time House Supervisor within Nursing Administration for the Night Shift at West Chester Hospital. The House Supervisor supports West Chester Hospital and Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures. The House Supervisor facilitates patient flow throughout the facility, provides administrative direction for assigned nursing personnel, coordinates daily staffing in collaboration with the Clinical Managers and Clinical Directors, and acts as the acting administrative representative for decision making on weekends, holidays and after hours.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Staff: Assigns and reassigns unit staff based on patient care needs, continuity, acuity and budgetary guidelines. Reviews staffing sheets for accuracy. Assigns float staff based on staffing grid/ratio and staff expertise. Analyzes the need for additional staff for each shift utilizing census and acuity information. Notifies Clinical Manager and Clinical Director of staffing deficiencies and collaborates with unit management regarding reassignment of personnel. Delegates tasks appropriately to healthcare personnel. Communicates with unit-specific Clinical Managers regarding unit functioning and collaborating in problem-solving as needed. Serves as a change agent when patient care and processes are redesigned. Ensures decision-making authority of staff is acknowledged and incorporated into patient care delivery. Collaborates with ancillary departments in problem solving.
  • Facilitates Patient Flow Throughout The Hospital System: Evaluates ability of hospital to safely care for patients, by keeping abreast of hospital census and other anticipated admitting/discharging activity. Collaborates with Admitting, Assessment team and management for availability of beds, equipment and placement of patients. Communicates with external agencies as indicated.
  • Quality Improvement And Safety: Resource and consultant to associates. Responds to emergency situations and implements appropriate intervention. Communicates with hospital department heads and/or Administrator on-call for the purpose of problem resolution or information briefing. Refers injured associates to employee injury line for direction. Surveillance of hospital environment for safety, orderliness and cleanliness. Articulates and takes action to support the JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals. Demonstrates knowledge of internal and external disaster plans and fire drills. Incorporates safety into clinical processes, policies and procedures. Supports a non-punitive environment for reporting errors. Articulates federal and state regulations.
  • Professionalism: Exhibits personal and professional accountability and career planning. Supports and encourages staff to be involved in professional organizations, projects to obtain certification and advanced education. Articulates in the application of ethical principles for patient care and operations. Demonstrates care about people as individuals with empathy and concern, while ensuring that organizational ethics, goals and objectives are met. Creates and promotes a healthy work environment that is conducive to opinion sharing and decreases moral distress. Role models the perspective that patient care is the core of the organization's work.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience Requirements: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Associate’s Degree in Nursing, minimum required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred. Current OH RN License. 3-5 Years equivalent experience, minimum required. OR Four (4) years progressive leadership responsibilities and ICU experience. 6-10 Years equivalent experience, preferred. Membership in a professional organization is desirable, but not required.
  • Required Skills and Knowledge: Experience in a university hospital environment preferred. Ability to utilize sound management principles. Ability to accept and implement change. Able to foster professional and inter-professional relationships. Fosters effective guest relations skills. Ability to work flexible hours. BCLS required prior to patient contact. ACLS, telemetry certification required. Certification(s) specific to rehabilitation, medical/surgical, orthopedic, critical care or gerontological nursing desired.
