Position Overview

Shift: 7:00pm-7:30am (rotating weekends and holidays)

Essential Functions

  • Affords assistance in identifying clinical and administrative priorities.
  • Utilizes guidelines from the public relations department for communication with outside agencies and media.
  • Follows and adheres to procedures outlined in emergency preparedness and department-specific protocols.
  • Reports any unusual activity or emergency to the administrator on call.
  • Investigates incidents and accidents to ensure appropriate and accurate responses, actions, and documentation.
  • Communicates and disseminates information and directions as requested during their tour of duty.
  • Exercises discretion and judgment to evaluate clinical and administrative solutions in collaboration with the nurse manager and nursing staff.
  • Works collaboratively to facilitate the distribution of available resources.
  • Initiates a plan of action and ensures follow-through appropriately.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to coordinate activities during their tour of duty.
  • Coordinates staffing and reviews staffing patterns for the next shift.
  • Consults with nurse managers and directors regarding staffing and scheduling issues and needs.
  • Makes rounds throughout the hospital to assess the quality of nursing care and identify unit-specific needs.
  • Communicates concerns to appropriate staff members.
  • Responds to patient concerns and coordinates activities in accordance with CH policies and procedures.
  • Makes effective operational decisions based on the Nurse Practice Act, Code of Nursing, NJ State, Federal, OSHA, and CHS policies and procedures.
  • Ensures patient's right to confidentiality.
  • Assumes an active role in identifying staff issues, counseling staff, and addressing employee grievances according to established policies.
  • Works to achieve resolution efficiently and quickly.
  • Collaborates with the nurse manager to provide oversight for new employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates a willingness to adapt to changing departmental demands.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • TNCC required within six months of hire if working at RMC campus only.
  • AHA ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support, AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, AHA PALS or must obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or must obtain by end of orientation) AND 8 hours of Stroke-related Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours annually.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.

  • Frequent physical demands include: Walking, Sitting, Standing, Climbing (stairs or ladders), Carrying objects, Pushing/Pulling, Twisting, Bending, Reaching forward, Reaching overhead, Squatting/kneeling/crawling, Wrist position deviation, Pinching/fine motor activities, Keyboard use/repetitive motion.
  • Continuous physical demands include: Taste or Smell, Talk or Hear.
  • Sensory requirements include: Accurate near vision, Accurate far vision, Color discrimination, Minimal depth perception, Accurate hearing.
  • Anticipated occupational exposure risks include: Bloodborne pathogens, Chemicals, Airborne communicable diseases, Extreme temperatures, Radiation, Uneven surfaces or elevations, Extreme noise levels, Dust/particulate matter.
