About the Role
As the Facility Nursing Supervisor, you will maintain continuity of patient care in the absence of unit nurse managers/directors across all areas of the hospital, ensuring a safe and efficient standard of care.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and coordinates activities of hospital personnel to maintain continuity of care.
- Makes patient care assignments based on staff ability and patient needs.
- Evaluates care given by others under your direction, provides feedback, and makes appropriate changes.
- Maintains accountability for own care and care delegated to others, adhering to ethical and legal standards.
- Visits nursing units to oversee care and evaluate patient conditions.
- Evaluates census and acuity levels, collaborating with the Resource Optimization Center (ROC) and department leaders for patient assignments.
- Expedites efficient delivery of materials (medications, equipment, linen, food, and information services) in collaboration with supply chain leadership.
- Responds to emergency codes throughout the hospital and directs staff as appropriate.
- Escalates issues promptly through the chain of command and notifies on-call personnel of impending emergency surgery.
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs of patients.
- Applies effective communication to meet the needs of patients and families.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide quality care.
- Uses problem-solving approaches to address patient and unit issues, making realistic recommendations for change.
- Supports the mission and vision of the organization and adheres to policies.
- Practices in accordance with the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model.
Requirements
- Current RN license in the state of employment or covered by a compact (required).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification (preferred).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (preferred).
- Nurse Executive Certification or designated specialty certification (preferred).
- 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of clinical experience (preferred).
- Charge nurse or management experience (preferred).
