About the role

The Athenaeum Hotel is a part of the Chautauqua Hotel Company, which operates the Chautauqua Hotel during the Chautauqua Institution summer season. The hotel is open from late April through October for conferences and events.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and other general work inside and outside the Hotel.
  • Provides guest services deliveries.
  • Aids room attendants with stocking carts and closets and removing linen from rooms and hallways.
  • Assists with deep cleaning projects or other job duties as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Reports maintenance issues, property damages, or safety concerns to the supervisor for resolution.
  • Follows outlined procedures to report/log lost guest items for prompt return.
  • Adheres to procedures for the use of chemical cleaners to maintain safety standards and prevent damage.
  • Complies with OSHA’s Blood Borne Pathogen and Hazard Communication/Safety Data Standards, including proper use of protective equipment when cleaning up potentially infectious materials and/or using cleaning chemicals.
  • Interacts positively with guests, anticipates needs, and responds promptly to answer questions or resolve concerns.
  • Maintains cooperative, productive working relationships with team members.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Executive Housekeeper, Housekeeping Supervisors, Front Desk Manager, and/or Front Desk regarding the status of hotel rooms.
  • Participates in team meetings and training/development programs, including sharing expertise with new hires.
  • Reports work-related injuries immediately to manager/supervisor and Human Resources using appropriate Injury Report, even if not seeking medical attention.

Requirements

Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $18.00/Hour.

About The Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.

Schedule

Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position: Average scheduled working hours are flexible based on availability, can be up to 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary, general shifts include 8am-4pm or 2pm-10pm. Scheduled hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
