About the role

The Athenaeum Hotel, part of the Chautauqua Hotel Company, operates from late April through October for conferences and events, and from late June through late August during the Chautauqua Institution summer season.

Responsibilities

  • Provide shift supervision for the Front Desk Team to ensure premier hospitality and issue resolution for guests.
  • Function as a working leader and provide daily direction and training opportunities for the Front Desk Team.
  • Be the 'Point of Contact' to address guest requests and concerns immediately and professionally.
  • Apply working knowledge of all front desk operations and complete routine tasks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Chautauqua Institution and the Athenaeum Hotel, including amenities, hours of operation, programming, special events, and activities, and pricing.
  • Operate POS system to compute purchases, process payments, verify payment methods, post/remove account balances, and provide receipts and change.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales transactions and refunds in accordance with policies.
  • Monitor cash drawer and sign off on closings by Front Desk Attendants.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of hotel equipment used at the front desk and ensure its proper maintenance and security.
  • Communicate with management, colleagues, and other departments about guest room status, requests, and maintenance issues.
  • Ensure a safe, secure environment for hotel guests and associates by following key control procedures.
  • Use proper telephone etiquette to answer/hold/transfer calls, take complete messages, and make reservations.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties as assigned.

Requirements

Compensation for this position is $18/hour, with potential for up to $20/hour with experience and qualifications. Flexible schedules are offered, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on business needs and candidate availability.

About the Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution offers a $500 referral bonus for active employees who refer new hires who remain employed for at least 90 days from their first physical date of work. For seasonal positions, the new candidate must remain employed for at least 30 days from their first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season, which is the last Sunday in August.

About Your Schedule

Schedules are typically eight-hour shifts with a start time of 3:00 p.m., totaling 30-40 hours per week. Schedules are dependent on seasonal hours of business, sales volume, and employee status (full-time/seasonal or part-time/seasonal). Scheduled hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Part-time work is available pre/post the summer season (mid-April to late-October).
