Hourly Project Assistant II

Hourly, grant-funded position expected to last through 12/31/2026. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required; visa sponsorship is not available. Travel up to 10% of the time will be required. Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location and be located in or willing to relocate to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts prior to hire. Telecommuting may be permitted on a limited or as-needed basis only.

This position will provide experience in the field of public health, epidemiology, and the public sector, strengthening public health skills to support future endeavors within this field.

Responsibilities

• Assist New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and local health department (LHD) staff with respiratory virus, foodborne, and invasive disease surveillance activities upon request.
• Support case investigation, case report completion, data cleaning, and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
• Assist with data entry into NYSDOH data systems and REDCap.
• Participate in outbreak investigation and special projects as needed.
• Comply with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or graduate student in epidemiology, public health, or health sciences.
• Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. (visa sponsorship not available).
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location and be located in or willing to relocate to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background knowledge and/or interest in communicable diseases, applied public health practice, and/or microbiology.
• Experience with public health data management systems, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with SAS and/or R.

Pay

Minimum: $20.00 - Maximum: $20.00 hourly. Positions with a designated work location in New York City, Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, or Westchester Counties will receive a $4,000 annual downstate adjustment (pro-rated for part-time positions).
