Hostler - Salisbury

Location: Salisbury, NC – immediate part‑time position at a major retailer’s distribution center.

Job Summary

Hostler/Switchers will dock trailers at the distribution center and move trailers around the yard for optimum efficiency and performance in a timely, professional manner. Trailer movements include company‑owned trailers as well as trailers from vendor partners. The role represents Fort Worth Carrier Corporation and provides safe, professional service.

Responsibilities

• Daily movement of trailers around the yard and docking of trailers into dock doors as required.
• Drop and hook trailers at predetermined locations based on contents.
• Organize trailers on the lot and continually move them to ensure optimum space utilization.
• Move converter dollies as required.
• Perform visual checks of trailer lights, tire pressure, airline pressure, seals and locks; ensure doors are securely closed and locked.
• Secure and release trailer king pins for transport.
• Initiate repair requests, note damages, and apply red tags when necessary.
• Verify trailer status prior to moving.
• Participate in monthly or quarterly training as required.
• Communicate safety concerns, damages, and breakdowns promptly to dispatch and receiving offices.
• Maintain efficient two‑way radio communication for trailer movements.
• Perform routine fueling for yard trucks.
• Use electronic data systems to document all movements and update the yard management computer system.
• Accurately read, process, and enter numerical information.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to navigate obstacles and blind‑side park dock trailers.
• Proficient English verbal communication.
• Ability to meet deadlines and maintain schedule.
• Competent two‑way radio transmission skills.

Requirements

• Class C driver’s license.
• Pass physical and drug/alcohol screening.
• At least 1 year of yard‑truck experience.
• Night‑driving vision.
• Reliable personal transportation.
• Functional communication devices (telephone, mobile phone, etc.) for dispatch communication.
• Availability to work weekends; additional availability for Saturday shift is required.

Pay

Hourly rate $20+ (based on skills and experience).

Schedule

Flexible part‑time hours on weekdays Monday – Friday between 7 am and 4 pm, averaging 20‑25 hours per week. Additional availability for Saturday shift is required.
