Hostler/Jockey

Responsibilities

• Identify and move trailers from parking spaces to doors for loading, then return trailers to parking spaces.
• Ensure all paperwork is filled out accurately and in accordance with SOPs.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Technical Skills

• Ability to maneuver trailers into and out of tight spaces.
• Multi-tasking - checking fuel levels, monitoring trailer temperatures, and listening to radio for trailer moves.
• Keeping track of trailer moves when multiple moves are called out simultaneously.
• Basic math knowledge.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools.

Required Soft Skills

• Attention to detail - remembering load locations.
• Responsibility - monitoring units for proper operational temperatures.
• Teamwork - working with other jockeys on duty.
• Coachability and willingness to learn.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

• Work in very hot (over 100 degrees) and very cold (below 20 degrees) environments for extended periods.
• Bend, crawl, climb, squat, and work at various heights during shifts.
• Keep work area safe and clean.
• Work efficiently in a safe manner.

Education, Certifications and Experience

• Prior hostler/jockey experience preferred.
• Class A CDL required.
