Position Overview

Reporting to Food & Beverage leadership, the Server Assistant / Host is a guest-facing service colleague responsible for supporting both the arrival experience and dining room service flow at The Town Company. This role may rotate between host responsibilities, such as welcoming guests, managing seating, supporting reservations, and creating a positive first impression, and server assistant responsibilities, such as supporting table maintenance, food delivery, clearing, resetting, and guest service needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests in a warm, professional, and attentive manner.
  • Create a positive first and last impression through genuine hospitality, eye contact, clear communication, and follow-through.
  • Aid guests with questions about the restaurant, menu, hotel services, and local area as appropriate.
  • Communicate wait times, seating updates, and guest needs clearly and professionally.
  • Support guest satisfaction by observing the dining room, anticipating needs, and responding with urgency and care.
  • Listen carefully to guest concerns or special requests and involve servers or management appropriately.
  • Aid with special occasions, guest preferences, and service notes as directed by leadership.
  • Greet arriving guests and support a smooth arrival and seating experience.
  • Assist with reservations, walk-ins, waitlist management, and seating flow based on restaurant procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of table availability, pacing, guest counts, and dining room activity.
  • Seat guests according to service standards, guest needs, reservation notes, and operational direction.
  • Communicate seating updates, guest preferences, special occasions, allergies, or timing needs to servers and managers.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the host stand, menus, and guest-facing areas.
  • Help ensure guests are acknowledged and cared for during arrival, wait, and departure moments.
  • Aid servers with food and beverage service to support a timely and polished dining experience.
  • Preset tables, refill beverages, clear courses, remove soiled items, crumb or maintain tables as appropriate, and reset tables efficiently.
  • Deliver food orders as directed, verifying accuracy, presentation, table numbers, seat positions, and guest needs when applicable.
  • Maintain awareness of service pacing and communicate guest needs or table status updates to servers and leadership.
  • Sustain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of dining room stations, service areas, and workspaces.
  • Aid with side work, opening duties, closing duties, and general cleaning tasks.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the menu, service standards, table numbers, restaurant layout, and basic food and beverage offerings.

Safety, Sanitation & Compliance

  • Follow all departmental policies, service procedures, sanitation standards, and safety expectations.
  • Comply with company alcohol service policies and applicable liquor laws when supporting beverage service.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment; report repair needs promptly.
  • Confirm service ware condition and ensure items meet restaurant standards.
  • Report safety, guest, service, or equipment concerns promptly to management.

Qualifications

  • Educational requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Experience: Prior food and beverage, restaurant, hospitality, or guest service experience required. Fine dining, upscale casual, chef-driven, hotel restaurant, or high-volume guest service experience preferred.
  • Availability: Aligned with The Town Company's operating hours required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Technical & Operational Knowledge: Ability to learn restaurant layout, table and seat numbers, reservation flow, service standards, menu items, and basic food and beverage offerings. Ability to use or learn reservation systems, POS functions, and communication tools as assigned. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and colleagues.
