Host Responsibilities
- Warmly and graciously greet all guests upon arrival.
- When possible, open the front door for guests entering and leaving the restaurant.
- When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in the party.
- Provide guests with estimated waiting times.
- Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
- Seat guests based on guest preferences whenever possible and consider the balancing of customer flow in the service stations.
- Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their server’s name.
- Inspect the table for proper presentation and completeness.
- Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
- Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
- Maintain a clean and organized hostess station.
- Ensure the front of restaurant (entrance hallway / doors) are clear of trash, swept and windows are clean.
- Utilize POS system to ensure accurate sales data.
- Check bathrooms for cleanliness and paper supplies every two hours during the day and every hour from 5:00 pm – close.
- Utilize Hot Schedules application for scheduling and communication amongst the restaurant team.
- Read all messages sent from Management via Hot Schedules before coming in for each shift.
Host Qualifications
- No previous restaurant experience required.
- A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to warmly welcome our guests.
- Work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
About the role
PJ Whelihan's Restaurant + Pub in West Chester, PA is now hiring hosts. The position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities.
