About the Role

Maintains a clean, safe, orderly, and attractive environment throughout all hospital departments, patient areas, offices, corridors, and any hospital-controlled area following hospital cleaning and disinfection standards. Interacts with staff and patients regularly and collaborates with other members of the environmental services department. May assist the transport department by moving patients and specimens throughout the building.

Responsibilities

  • Clean patients' rooms and maintain all areas on the Nursing Unit, including bed-making support for unoccupied patient beds and disposal of needle boxes.
  • Empty laundry hampers and ensure corridors are clear of obstructions.
  • Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed within the hospital, including assisting patients into and out of automobiles during discharge or transport.
  • Place equipment in vehicles as necessary and transport deceased patients to the Hospital Morgue as required.
  • Deliver laboratory specimens, x-rays, lab reports, stockroom requisitions, and other miscellaneous items to support nursing units.
  • Move equipment on wheels such as hospital beds, carts, cardiac and geriatric chairs, and supplies; transport medical equipment to patient discharge locations.
  • Wash and clean all nursing unit transport and medical equipment.
  • Maintain area, equipment, and supplies in a neat, orderly, and safe condition; alert appropriate personnel about broken equipment or maintenance needs.
  • Clean, wash, mop, vacuum, and disinfect each discharge room for new admission.
  • Maintain inventory and prepare orders for all non-par stock items on the Nursing Unit.
  • Assist in training new employees in day-to-day procedures, observing and enforcing all hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Address and meet all patient non-clinical needs as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
