Job Summary
Provides administrative support for the department of rehabilitation, primarily by verifying patient insurance benefits and retrieving authorizations daily. Consistently monitors accounts to ensure proper reimbursement of insurance companies, works with various departments and staff to resolve denials, stays current on insurance industry changes, supports front desk staff with questions, assists new staff members, and performs other clerical duties as assigned. Must communicate effectively, have excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills, and possess computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
About the Role
Works in a fast-paced environment supporting the hospital’s patient services and insurance processes. Assists with resolving insurance claims and ensuring timely reimbursements. Supports the front desk and new staff integration. Performs other clerical tasks as directed.
Responsibilities
- Verifies patient insurance benefits and retrieves authorizations daily
- Maintains accurate records and ensures proper reimbursement of insurance companies
- Works with various departments and staff to resolve insurance claim denials
- Stays current on insurance industry changes and updates
- Supports front desk staff with questions and provides back-up when necessary
- Aids new staff members in their integration into the team
- Performs other clerical duties as assigned
Requirements
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills
- Computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology desired
Qualifications
- NYS Department of Civil Service Eligible list or eligible for transfer
- Or Promotional: Qualified employee of the State University of New York with at least one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1 or as a Nursing Station Clerk 1
- Or Open Competitive (Non-competitive, NY HELPS): Two years of full-time clerical experience in a health care setting; or two years of full-time secretarial experience in a health care setting; or two years of full-time patient care experience in a health care setting

Schedule
Based on a 40-hour work week with some holiday coverage required.
