Principal Responsibilities
- Responsible for planning and administering activities of a nursing unit or floor.
- Makes patient assignments for the next shift.
- Auxiliaries in the implementation of appropriate infection control measures.
- Auxiliaries in the coordination of overall continuity of patient care.
- Ensures daily tasks such as bedside shift report, crash cart checks, counting of narcotics, patient rounding, fall alarms are being utilized appropriately, etc. are completed.
- Allocates and directs staffing needs to meet patient, unit/department and organizational needs.
- Serves as a liaison between provider and patient care team.
- Supports, interacts, and serves as a clinical resource to patient care staff.
- Functions as a resource for policy and procedure interpretation.
- Utilizes appropriate patient care interventions.
- Provides formal and informal in-service to nursing staff about new policies, procedures, and technologies necessary for patient care.
- Identifies and responds to risk/emergency situations to decrease risk exposure to patients, family members, staff, and organization.
- Assumes administrative responsibilities in the absence of administration.
- Assures appropriate level of understanding, awareness and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local agency laws, internal/external regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures and professional standards.
- Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in meetings, in-service programs, continuing education programs, and fulfills yearly requirements as stated by policy.
- Participates in achieving nursing division goals.
- Participates in achieving nursing department goals.
- Appropriately delegates nursing procedures which do not require the skill/knowledge or judgment of a licensed professional and which may be safely delegated in accordance with nursing policies and procedures.
- Supervises the provision of care by non-licensed personnel as necessary.
- Utilizes current evidence-based practice when providing direct patient care.
- Participates in organizational leadership development opportunities.

- Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change.
- Dresses in a neat, clean uniform for patient care; maintain high personal hygiene standards.
- Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a “We Care” philosophy with all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.
