About the role

This position provides customer service and support to Hospital operations. The incumbent must independently prioritize tasks to ensure all shift-assigned duties are completed in a timely manner. Special assignments are addressed once regularly scheduled tasks are finished, requiring self-motivation and coordination with co-workers. Primarily assigned to the hospital, the incumbent represents the entire department and must possess comprehensive skills and knowledge related to linen, medical supplies, patient equipment, patient care organizational information, and Distribution department functions.

Responsibilities

  • 40% Inventory Control & Replenishment: Manage inventory levels, ensure timely replenishment, and maintain accurate records.
  • 30% Distribution of Materials: Oversee the distribution of linen, medical/surgical supplies, and patient equipment throughout the hospital.
  • 10% Cost Containment: Implement cost-effective material management practices, including product storage, distribution, security, receiving, and crediting returns while ensuring product integrity for patient use.
  • 10% Equipment: Handle the tracking, billing, and maintenance of patient care equipment and rentals.
  • 5% Cleanliness & Safety: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with hospital policies.
  • 5% Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned, including maintaining filing systems, logistical records, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience and general understanding of medical equipment in a hospital/clinical setting.
  • Experience maintaining multiple filing systems, records, and logistical information.
  • Knowledge of computerized and hard-copy information systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of linen and medical/surgical supplies, including their applications and suitable substitutions.
  • Understanding of cost-effective material management practices, such as product storage, distribution, security, receiving, selling, crediting returns, and product substitutions.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for inventory replenishment, weight, units of measure, and package counts.
  • Ability to clearly understand, speak, read, and write English to comprehend and convey instructions on invoices, shipping documents, control logs, inventory sheets, and general correspondence.
  • Knowledge of hospital supply activities, including distribution logistics, proper documentation, weights and units of measure, and policies related to product dispersal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relay instructions and ideas to a diverse audience while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Ability to make logical and sound decisions, recognizing when to act independently or seek additional resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of UC policies and procedures related to receiving and processing hospital supply materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles for planning, organizing, and controlling operational activities.

Skills

  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in inventory management and record-keeping.

Pay

$27.93 - $34.74 per hour.

Schedule

Variable days and times, including shifts such as 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM and 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM. This is a full-time (100%) position with occasional overtime required to provide staff coverage.

This position is 100% on-site at the Main Hospital (HSP001) and is represented by the EX-Patient Care Technical union. Employment is contingent upon clearing a criminal background check, drug screening, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment. This role is designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy.
