About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Justin T. Roger Hospice Care Center and make a difference in the community every day. At this facility, caregivers help prepare patients and their families physically, emotionally, and spiritually for the end of life. You will work alongside compassionate physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to offer patients support and comfort as they adjust to the hospice environment. Our focus is on providing comfort, not a cure, and on quality of life, not duration.

This is a PRN (as-needed) position offering a flexible schedule and autonomy to work independently, allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance while serving as an emotional ally and comfort.

Schedule

During the first 4 weeks, you will work 2 days from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and 2 days from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. After that, you will transition to 3 twelve-hour shifts until the 12th week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, assessment, planning, and direct patient care to hospice patients.
  • Perform accurate and complete admissions assessments and re-assessments.
  • Assess patients for safety risks, abuse, and neglect.
  • Assess, document, and manage patient’s pain.
  • Prioritize and document patient problems.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately with a focus on patient comfort.
  • Coordinate care for managing a caseload of patients.
  • Document changes in patient condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care/interventions.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise plans of care.
  • Assess educational needs of patients, caregivers, and family while considering cultural issues and other special challenges.
  • Provide teaching and educational material to patients and families concerning diagnosis, diagnostic tests and procedures, safe and proper use of equipment, reason for and safe use of medication, food/drug interactions, injury prevention, self-care, and nutritional needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
  • One year of current clinical experience as an RN.
  • One year of experience in an acute medical-surgical or critical care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Prior experience in hospice or hospital floor.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting packages, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Heavy work – Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Medium Work.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $43.00 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions).
